White Nun

American Horror Story

All monsters are human.

Mental illness is the fashionable explanation for sin.

“If you look in the face of evil, evil’s gonna look right back at you.”

About

The White Nun is the cover of American Horror Story’s 2nd season: Asylum. She doesn’t take place in the series and stands for all the fakeness in this world. (I guess?)

In 2018 I was asked by a friend to join a AHS cosplay group and after a poll we chose Season 2. I always wanted to recreate the white nun so this was perfect for me since nobody else was able to put in sclera lenses. I didn’t gave my best into this costume but I’m happy with the result. There will be more American Horror Story cosplays in the future!

Selfmade Items

I made the dress and the gown by myself.

Nagini as White Nun
Difficulty

The most difficult part was the makeup. In the original picture you can’t see any facial hairs like the eyebrows or the lashes. I tried my best to cover my eyebrows with glue and makeup but I had to remove them later completely with photoshop. The dress was pretty easy but next time I would use a different fabric.

Costs

The most expensive item were the sclera lenses. The fabric was pretty cheap. I think the whole costume was around 80.- CHF.

Materials

The dress and gown are made of polyester fabric.

Making Of

To create the pattern I used a shirt which fits me. Then I just drew on the bottom part as long as I wanted it to be. For the sleeves I used a lng sleeve shirt and took the measures from there. Then I traced it to the fabric twice and cutted it out. After that I sewed it together and voilà.

Since you can’t see the ears I wanted to hide them under a cap made out of lycra fabric. I used the same pattern as for the cowl for Harley Quinn and sewed it together.
